At The Drake Center for Veterinary Care, we understand that the bond you and your beloved feline friend share is invaluable and irreplaceable. We also understand that by nature, cats are roaming creatures and therefore run the risk of wandering too far from home, or just accidentally losing their way. In fact, a staggering number of cats are lost in the shelter system each year because they lack any means to identify them with. This is why we are happy to offer cat microchip identification services.

Pet microchips work like global positioning devices (GPS) and tell me my pet's location.

This is why it is critical to keep your contact information current in a microchip registry like the Found Animals Registry®. A microchip contains a number that can be registered to your pet. The number is read using a special "reader" or scanner that can be used to identify your dog or cat at a veterinary hospital or clinic. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected by a veterinarian underneath the pet's skin, usually between the dog or cat's shoulder blades. The insertion process is similar to administering a vaccination and only takes a few seconds. Insertion of the microchip does not require anesthesia or sedation.
